Now, users have the option to post images taken in both portrait and landscape mode. What’s important to remember is that images can always be cropped or shrank down to the ideal size. However, when you try to make an image larger than it was originally it can easily become distorted. Because of this it’s best to start in landscape mode which allows for wider shots. Then you can and work your way down to get the image to your preferred size.
Take the image from different angles. When a potential customer first views a product they’ll want to view it from every angle to be sure it is what they’re looking for. Not only will this allow customers to view the product from all sides but it will also help you determine the angle that your product photographs best.
Make sure your image is free of shadows. Shadows can make images appear unprofessional. To reduce shadows make sure you’re taking the pictures against the light instead of toward it. It may take some time and repositioning but in the end it will make for an all-around better image.
Find the right lighting. Lighting can make or break an image. If you use a light that’s too warm it can add an orangey tint to the image but if it’s too cool it can wash it out. It’s important to find balance between the two. If you have the budget studio lighting is the best option. However, you can also take advantage of natural light. To do this place your product and shooting background by a large widow. You can also use household objects like mirrors and cardboard to reflect the light and adjust it.
Don’t use filters that might distort the color. When posting the picture on Instagram you may be tempted to apply a filter. This is best avoided because it can change the color of the product and mislead customers. Instead keep the in-app editing to a minimum.
Keep it consistent. This is especially important if you’re going to be posting a lot of product images on your Instagram page. By using the same background, lighting, and positioning for each product you create a visually appealing page that will draw customers in.
